International DAP Orders: Recipient Tax ID Requirements

All international DAP orders will now be prompted to include the following Tax ID information fields:

  • Recipient Tax ID

  • Tax ID Type

  • Tax ID Country

These fields have been added to support destination countries that require additional Tax ID information to process international imports. This information is used by customs authorities to identify the individual or business importing the shipment and to properly complete customs clearance.

Depending on the destination country, this information may include:

  • Recipient Tax ID: The government issued tax or personal identification number of the individual or business receiving the shipment.

  • Tax ID Type: The type of identification being provided, such as a VAT number, CPF, RFC, CURP, national identification number, or another country specific identifier.

  • Tax ID Country: The country that issued the Tax ID.

This may apply to both business and direct-to-consumer shipments.

Please note that while all international orders will prompt for this information, not all destination countries require Tax ID information. Requirements vary by country and are determined by the destination country's customs authority.

If a destination country requires Tax ID information and it is not provided, the shipment may be delayed, held by customs, returned to sender, or incur additional fees. In some cases, the shipment may need to be processed under DDP (Delivered Duty Paid) instead of DAP (Delivered at Place).

Collecting Tax ID Information

Many ecommerce platforms, including Shopify, BigCommerce, WooCommerce, and Adobe Commerce, provide the ability to collect Tax ID information during checkout or through checkout customizations.

We recommend reviewing your store's checkout configuration to determine how this information can be collected from your customers.

For platform specific guidance, we also recommend reaching out to your ecommerce platform's customer support team/account manager. They can provide the most accurate instructions for enabling this functionality within your store.

Can Tax ID Information Be Bypassed?

Yes. By default, the bypass feature will be enabled on your account. When enabled, international orders missing Recipient Tax ID, Tax ID Type, or Tax ID Country information will not be held in Needs Review and will continue processing normally.

It is important to note that when the bypass feature is enabled, orders will not be delayed by Atomix and will continue to ship without being held for review. However, enabling the bypass feature does not override destination country requirements. If a destination country requires Tax ID information and it is not provided, the shipment may still be delayed, held by customs, returned to sender, or incur additional fees.

If you would prefer for orders missing this information to be reviewed before processing, our Customer Success team can disable the bypass feature for your account. When disabled, orders missing Recipient Tax ID, Tax ID Type, or Tax ID Country information will automatically be placed into Needs Review so the information can be added or the order can be reviewed prior to shipment.
