Shipping Logistics: What Brands Should Know

Shipping logistics refers to the management of how products move from manufacturer to warehouse, and ultimately to the end customer. For eCommerce brands, mastering this process is key to maintaining customer satisfaction, optimizing costs, and scaling effectively.

At Atomix, we break logistics into three core functions, all of which we manage or support:

1. Inbound Logistics

Inbound logistics covers the transportation of products from your manufacturer or supplier to one of our fulfillment centers (Milwaukee or Salt Lake City).
Key Atomix Policies:

  • All inbound shipments must be scheduled via Conduit, our appointment booking system.

  • An ASN (Advanced Shipping Notice) document is required for every shipment. Missing ASNs result in delays of 10–15 business days and a $25/box fee.

  • Inventory must be entered into the Atomix App at least 5 business days prior to arrival to avoid penalties and delayed receiving.

2. Outbound Logistics

Outbound logistics refers to the process of fulfilling and shipping customer orders from our warehouses to your end customers, whether via DTC or B2B channels.
DTC (Direct-to-Consumer) Fulfillment:

  • Same-day shipping SLA for orders received by 1:00 PM CST.

  • Orders received after the cutoff will ship the next business day.

  • All orders are video-recorded at packout and verified by barcode scan at both pick and pack stages.

B2B and Wholesale Orders:

  • SLA: Ships within 5 business days unless otherwise noted.

  • Atomix has a dedicated B2B team to ensure PO accuracy and compliance with routing guides (e.g., Target, Ulta, Amazon, The Vitamin Shoppe).

  • EDI integrations are supported via SPS Commerce and our custom integration layer.

3. Reverse Logistics

Reverse logistics involves returns processing, restocking, or disposal of product.
Return Guidelines:

  • Returns can only be processed at our Milwaukee location.

  • Processing SLA: 5 business days for standard returns, 10 business days if tracking or return form is missing.

  • Atomix supports integrations with Loop and Two Boxes for returns automation.

  • Custom SOPs are created for each client to define return inspections, repacking, or disposal workflows.

Choosing a Shipping Strategy: In-House vs. 3PL

What Factors Should Influence Your Logistics Strategy?

  • Product Type & Fragility

  • (e.g. cosmetics, supplements, or beverages may need special pack out or temperature control)

  • Weight & Dimensional Factors

  • (affects billable shipping costs, packaging selection, and carrier options)

  • Packaging Requirements

  • (custom kits, bundles, gift notes, or subscription builds can be handled in-house at Atomix)
