A premium unboxing experience is a defining part of many modern eCommerce brands—especially those in beauty, wellness, fashion, and sustainable goods. At Atomix, we treat high-touch fulfillment as a core service offering, helping brands stand out by delivering visually polished, personalized, and consistent packaging experiences.

What Is a High-Touch Product?

A high-touch product requires extra attention to detail during fulfillment—beyond the standard pick and pack process. These products often have:

  • :sparkles:

    Branded or specialty packaging

  • :ribbon:

    Specific wrap or assembly instructions

  • :page_facing_up:

Marketing inserts, hand-written notes, or influencer cards

  • :repeat:

    Subscription pack variations

  • :soap:

    Fragile or soft-touch handling needs

  • :package:

    Complex pack-outs or gift-ready presentation

Key Point: Any order that requires a customized, repeatable workflow outside standard fulfillment will be scoped and managed as either a Kitting Project or Special Project depending on complexity (see definitions below).

Kitting vs. Special Projects: What’s the Difference?

The Unboxing Process: Step-by-Step

  1. Initial Consultation:

  2. During onboarding or any time after, let your Onboarding Specialist or Pod Manager know that your brand requires special packaging or high-touch support.

  3. Workflow Definition:

  4. You’ll work with our Ops team to:

    • Submit photos or video of your ideal unboxing

    • Define SKUs involved, any packaging SKUs, insert logic, personalizations

    • Determine if the kit will be virtual (SKU mapping) or physical

  5. SOP Creation:

  6. Atomix will draft a detailed Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) for the pack-out, which includes:

    • Step-by-step instructions

    • Materials and SKUs involved

    • QA guidelines

    • Pricing agreement and approval timeline

  7. Training & Testing:

  8. Your Atomix Fulfillment Pod will be trained on the SOP, and a test run will be performed. We may ask for feedback to finalize the visual experience.

  9. Launch & Execution:

  10. Once approved, the workflow will go live for all active orders involving your high-touch products.

SLA Note: Kitting and high-touch workflows require a 7-business-day lead time from submission to activation, assuming all SKUs and materials are on hand and labeled appropriately.

Packaging Requirements & Tips

If you are supplying your own packaging, be sure to:

  • Create packaging SKUs in the Atomix App

  • Submit receiving shipments at least 5 business days before use

  • Label boxes/tissue/inserts clearly with your SKU or part number

  • Indicate reorder thresholds if restock alerts are needed

Atomix can also assist in sourcing packaging materials via partner vendors if requested.

Examples of High-Touch Projects We've Handled

  • A celebrity wellness brand shipping premium vitamin sets in magnetic-close gift boxes with foil-wrapped inserts and velvet pouches

  • A skincare brand requiring lot-controlled serums in frosted glass packed with crinkle paper, info cards, and scent samples

  • A subscription tea box with seasonal inserts, flavor pairings, and region-specific bundles

How to Request a High-Touch Pack-Out or Project

To request a kitting setup or special unboxing experience:

  • Message your Pod Manager via Slack or Intercom

  • Submit the [Special Project Request Form] in the Atomix App

  • Provide clear documentation of how you'd like the order to look and feel

Your request will be scoped and priced accordingly, with a turnaround time of up to 5 business days from final SOP approval.
